Just arrived with us is this 1972 Triumph Stag
Registered on 1st August 1972 and finished in white with a black interior, this particular car is now fitted with the twin-carb 2.5 litre straight six engine out of a Triumph saloon in place of the original V8. Whether this is preferable to the original V8 is a matter of personal opinion....
The exhaust is particularly noteworthy as it looks to be a stainless steel saloon centre section modified to accept a splitter at the back so that the twin exit pipes can be fitted, in an approximation of the original Stag system. It gives quite a deep note when running, and is quite rorty, so there's not much chance of sneaking up on people in stealth mode.
The car is basically sound and roadworthy, although it would benefit from a nearside sill replacement. The panel is included with the car, however. Obviously there are other areas which would benefit from cosmetic improvement, but the car has recently been subject to much mechanical restoration. The tyres are all fairly new and are a decent make, the suspension has been lowered and stiffened slightly, plus has GAZ adjustable dampers. The power steering has been removed - although the pipework is still present - but that in my humble opinion is a good thing as it's light enough without the assistance and gives more feel on the road. Certainly the previous owner didn't have a problem with this arrangement as they have been using the car on a daily basis over the past few months.
The interior is mainly good, although the carpets are a bit past their best.
Several repair panels and trim panels are included with the sale.
Obviously there is room for further improvement on the car, or just jump in and use it as an interesting retro, ULEZ-free daily car.
